An Impulsive High School Student Manifests Several Alcohol-Related Problems, Gets Kicked Out Of School, And Has To See The School Counselor

Stephen was a seventeen year old high school junior who was exhibiting quite a few alcohol-related problems at school. Therefore, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist, before he would be allowed to return to class.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to clarify his school expulsion to his Mom and Dad. His parents were "fairly old-style" and told Stephen that getting expelled from school was not a viable educational plan of action. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his ankles that might impair his educational attainment for the remainder of his life. Not only this, but Stephen's parents were quite distraught that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

It was apparent that his Mom and Dad were out and out in full concurrence with Stephen's principal and told Stephen that he had better make up his mind to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist. After his chat with his parents, Stephen at last agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen called the school and made an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during his third period class.

When Stephen went to see Miss Pender, she instantly reviewed all of the alcohol-related difficulties Stephen had experienced and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related activities caused quite a bit of concern by the school administrators.

Quite honestly, Stephen wondered why the principal informed him that he had to see a school therapist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional counselor about his drinking situation? Due to the fact that just about all of his pals drink as much if not more than he does, basically, drinking shouldn't be such a big deal. Stated another way, if nearly everyone is drinking, why is this such a big deal?

In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to impede his ability to act like a responsible young man. As articulated by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your pals drink wine, hard liquor, wine coolers, or beer does not mean that it's right for you."

Luckily, Miss Pender was well prepared for her scheduled meeting with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had underlined that listed different drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen a lot of data that applied especially to underage drinkers.

After Miss Pender listed the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was obvious that what Miss Pender made known to Stephen was a real source of revelation for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to explain the long term and the short term consequences of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction statistics and facts that related to people in general, and chiefly to underage drinkers.

Undeniably, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately realized why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his friends anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she reviewed and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
